Clean and Simple The sites audience were unlikely to be tech savvy so ease of use and simplicity took precedence over beauty and features, the sites overall layout and colour scheme was chosen because it matched the stationary and business cards the company was already using.

Derbyshire Masonry and Reclamation are a small family run stone company based in Derbyshire, they needed someone they could trust to take their business online.

They chose Edge Designs.

Initial Consultation

We liaised with the owners of the company and worked hard to understand their needs and the industry in which they work, we discussed what the aims of the website would be and gave ideas on features that might be useful to their customers.

Feature Highlight ~ Sample MatchingThrough talking to the owners we learnt that customers often wanted stone that matched whatever they already had , we created a facility whereby customers could upload a picture of the stone that they wished to be matched.

The Complete Package

Derbyshire Masonry and Reclamation did not only want a website, they wanted someone to take care of everything, to this end we provided direction and advice at the beginning, we built the website, consulted on the content, advised on the domain name, host the website, set up their email and provide ongoing services and support to this day.

What Shall We Call Her It!

Due to the length of the company’s name we spent some time discussing the domain name, we initially thought that www. derbyshire masonry and reclamation .co .uk was simply to long, we flirted with the idea of shorting it to perhaps www.derbyshiremasonry.co.uk or just www.dmr.co.uk, but in the end it was decided that the length of the name might be helpful to people trying to remember it and that having a domain name that was different to the company name would not be a good idea especially from a customers point of view.

Keeping up with the stock

Derbyshire Masonry and Reclamation’s stock is primary made up of reclaimed stone as all their new masonry is made to order, this means that the reclaimed section of the website which contains a list of everything available and photos of important pieces can change quite regularly as existing stock is sold and new reclamation comes in. We developed the website with Wordpress so that it could easily be updated and spent time training the staff member at the company who would be doing the updating, the result is that it is now easy or them to change pictures, text and even add or remove whole sections without having to pay for it every time.

New Business Owners are Busy

When we first created the website we only created the shell, the thinking was that to save money the owners of the company could input the content themselves, as it turned out however they were simply too busy and in the end they chose to have us fill in the content for them.

We’re in this for the Long Haul

The people running this business are busy doing just that and, its where their expertise lie, they haven’t got time to fiddle around trying to get their email to work, they don’t need the stress, what they need is peace of mind and our ongoing support provides this, they have a direct line to us and if something isn’t working, we fiddle about so they don’t have to.
